TRADITIONAL NAVAJO POTTERY

Traditional Navajo Pottery is hand coiled from natural clay. After it has been shaped, designs may or may not be added to the pot. The pot is then covered and fired in a manure fire. Carbon blackened images called "Fire Clouds" are left on the pot. The pot is then polished and covered with a Pinon Tree Pitch to give the pot a sheen and to make it water proof.

   ETCHED NAVAJO POTTERY

Navajo Etched Pottery aka Navajo Etchware Pottery is usually a red or white clay, poured into a mold where it sets and dries. It is then hand Etched and painted, after which it is then fired in a kiln.

 NAVAJO HORSEHAIR POTTERY

Navajo Horsehair Pottery is made in much the same way as Navajo Etched Pottery.  The difference is in that real Horsehair is used to create the unique black carbon designs on the pot.

  NAVAJO ORNAMENTS

Navajo Ornaments are for any decorative or festive occasion. All of our hand crafted Navajo ornaments are made by local artists and will come with a picture of the artist who made them.
